Bank robber sentenced to prison

OKLAHOMA CITY – A Tulsan with a history of convictions for drug offenses and violent crimes admitted robbing a bank 11 months ago and was sentenced to almost six years in federal prison.

William Boyd Sturdivant pleaded guilty to robbing an Arvest Bank in Oklahoma City of $600, including two $50 “bait bills,” on Sept. 9, 2021.

After the bandit left, the bank president followed him on foot to a downtown OKC restaurant, where he sat down. The bank executive used his mobile phone to notify OKC police, who apprehended the robber.

At the time of his arrest, Sturdivant was carrying a backpack in which was found the bank’s money, including the bait bills, an FBI special agent wrote in a court document.

Sturdivant, 36, pleaded guilty in Oklahoma City’s Western District federal court on April 28 to bank robbery. He was sentenced last month by U.S. District Judge Bernard M. Jones to 70 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervision after his discharge from prison.

Records of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections show that between 2005 and 2019, Sturdivant was convicted in Tulsa County District Court of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana after former conviction of a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree burglary, second-degree arson, grand larceny, assault and battery, misdemeanor breaking and entering, and two violations of victim protective orders.
