ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE – The 97th Air Mobility Wing will host the Red River Thunder Air Show and Open House here on Saturday.
This is the first air show and open house hosted at Altus AFB in five years. Attendees do not need a Department of Defense ID card to enter, and admission is free to the public. Gates will open at 9 a.m.
“We’re going to bring a variety of aircraft from across the military and some historical aircraft, as well as a STEM fair,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Cary Reeves, director of the Red River Thunder Air Show. “It will be a chance to get up close and personal with Air Force missions that show aviation and innovation happening.”
Red River Thunder celebrates the U.S. Air Force’s 75th birthday and this nation’s air power projected around the world since 1947. The event also serves as a “thank you” to the Altus community and surrounding areas for their continued support.
The 97th Air Mobility Wing trains pilots to fly the C-17, KC-135, and KC-46 aircraft; the wing trains 70% of the Air Force’s mobility aircrew.
“This is a regional event,” Reeves said. “Altus trains air crews that are going to serve across the world. Fort Sill does the same with artillery, and Sheppard AFB does tons for international partners with their pilot training. We reached out to both bases, and they’re bringing anything they can drag here.”
