AURORA, Colo. — During a speech at the Air and Space Forces Association’s 2023 Warfare Symposium, the Air Force Chief of Staff said the country “must become comfortable with discomfort” to ensure the service’s continued success.
Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. said the Air Force must move quicker, adapt, reshape and position itself to face new threats emerging against the nation’s security and interests.
Brown said the service must balance “capabilities” against “capacity,” and evaluate the Air Force’s strength. He called for assessing how the Air Force fits into a wholistic approach braiding together the Joint Force’s allies and industry.
“I’d rather be uncomfortable than lose,” Brown said. “That’s exactly why I wrote Accelerate Change or Lose.
“As Airmen, you must think differently about how we fly, fight and win. With Accelerate Change or Lose, you need to think about the speed, the agility, [and] the lethality we have that are force multipliers. You must adapt. And we cannot do this by ourselves. In order to be successful, we have to work together.”
