OKLAHOMA CITY — “There is no question that beef is important, not just in my Senate district but all over Oklahoma,” state Sen. Darcy Jech (R-Kingfisher) said in a May 16 interview during the “Beef Day” observance at the State Capitol.

Beef producers have faced numerous challenges this year, from input prices to drought, Jech recalled.

“Fortunately, lately we have been blessed with some rain, so things are looking good or better, at least,” he said. “Unfortunately, the wheat crop is probably too far along for the rain to make a difference in that.”

Michael Kelsey, executive vice president of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, was on hand along with some board members, Jech noted.

“The beef industry is well represented at the Capitol” on Beef Day, “visiting with legislators and advocating for their issues,” he said.

“They’re a great bunch,” said Jech, a member of the Senate’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. “These are people I deal with a lot here at the Capitol and in my other life outside of the Senate.”
