Dilapidated docks to be demolished

CHICKASHA – A contract to demolish several dilapidated docks at Lake Chickasha was awarded by the City Council to Washita Construction and Renovation.

Parks and Recreation Director Spencer Winzenried set aside $30,000 last year for removal of 13 docks at the lake, but two bids came in more than double that amount and a third bid was rejected outright.

Washita Construction, of Chickasha, bid $66,677 for the package, or $5,129 per dock. M&M Wrecking, of Blanchard, bid $71,750.

Under an agreement struck with President Malisa Bramblett, Washita Construction will do $30,000 worth of demolition, or about six docks, Winzenried told Southwest Ledger.

The contractor must dismantle the deteriorated docks in their entirety and dispose of all waste material in an approved landfill; use of explosives to perform the job is prohibited. The job must be completed by July 1, which will be the first day of Fiscal Year 2025.

Winzenried said he will try to get enough funds reserved in FY25 to finish the work.

Bordwine Development Inc. of Chickasha priced the docks demolition project at $30,000, but its bid was rejected. The reason was “because of invalid insurance certificates that were previously provided to the City and failure to comply with City ordinances and bid requirements on prior awarded work,” Winzenried informed the council.
