From staff reports Oklahoma’s good to excellent winter wheat conditions dropped by 5% this week, according to the latest Oklahoma Crop Progress and Condition Report, while the fair conditions dropped by 3%, and the poor conditions by 2%.
Pasture and range conditions improved from 29% good to excellent to 31%. Additionally, the fair conditions increased by 7% and the poor to very poor conditions decreased by 5%.
The good to excellent rating for livestock conditions decreased from 67% to 60%, while the fair conditions increased by 4%, and the poor to very poor by 3%.
Winter wheat grazed reached 57%, a 6-point decrease from 2023, while rye grazed increased by 6 points to 46%. Lastly, grazed oats decreased by 30 points to 8% from the previous year.
According to Oklahoma Farm Report, rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged .12 inches. According to the Feb. 27 Drought Monitor Report, conditions were rated 31% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 46 points from last year.
Additionally, 3% of the state w as in moderate to exceptional drought categories, down 64 points from the previous year. Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower to mid 50s. Topsoil moisture and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Overall, the decrease in drought severity seems positive.
