MEDICINE PARK –The Medicine Park Economic Development Authority is considering hiring a second influencer to help promote the town.

The authority voted 3-0 March 14 to continue exploring the possibility of recruiting an additional influencer from popular social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. Chairman John Branch and board member Patty Clark were absent.

As part of its research, the authority will talk to knowledgeable people in the field about the cost of hiring an additional influencer, possible legal issues and other questions.

An influencer who is familiar with social media sites other than Facebook could help publicize Medicine Park’s attractions and events, said the authority’s vice chairman, Noel Alsbrook.

“I absolutely think we need this,” he said. “I mean, like 1,000% need this.”

Alsbrook said he thought MPEDA should have its own Instagram and TikTok pages – and possibly even a YouTube channel – and hire someone to manage those pages and promote the town.

“That is in the town’s and businesses’ best interests, long term,” he said.
