CHICKASHA – Leases were awarded on two parcels of agricultural land at the city’s airport, a payment was authorized on a water distribution system improvement project, and the City Council bought a front-end loader.

The Municipal Authority approved a $64,665 payment to Marsau Enterprises of Foster, in southwestern Garvin County, for repairs made recently on Chickasha’s water distribution system.

Marsau has a $625,000 contract with the City of Chickasha to perform various improvements to the water system, records indicate. The funds, from a community development block grant, will be spent on projects such as line repairs, drainage and elevation, pressurization, and general improvements at various locations throughout town, City Manager Keith Johnson said.

The City Council authorized the Public Works Department to buy a compact track loader from C.L. Boyd Co. in Lawton for $146,205 via a state contract. The machine will replace one that was stolen, department Director Jim Crosby said. Insurance paid approximately $86,000 on the theft, City Manager Keith Johnson said.

The track loader will have an 84-inch-wide construction bucket. It also comes with a $39,500 drum mulching head attachment, which “we use a lot on the dam at Lake Chickasha,” Johnson said.

Justin Workman of Minco will pay $21,800 for a lease on a 398-acre tract at the airport; 38 acres are pasture and 360 acres are cultivated land. He also will pay $6,655 to lease 121 acres of airport land on which only baling of native grass hay is allowed.

The leases will be for one year, with the possibility of four additional one-year terms, according to the Airport Authority.
