Winter wheat conditions fall 8 points from last week

From staff reports OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s winter wheat conditions have fallen once again, from 68% excellent to 60%, and increasing in fair and poor to very poor conditions.

However, Oklahoma’s winter wheat jointing, the stage in which wheat begins growing above the soil’s surface, has reached 75%, up 15 points from 2023 and up 7 points from normal. Winter wheat headed also reached 15%, up 4 points from 2023 and up 7 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 63% good to excellent, an increase of 3%, while fair and poor to very poor conditions decreased by 1% and 2%, respectively.

Pasture and range conditions also improved, from 39% good to excellent to 42%, while fair conditions and poor to very poor conditions decreased by 2% and 1%, respectively.

National winter wheat conditions remained relatively stable, with a 1% decrease in good to excellent conditions. However, winter wheat headed reached 11%, up 2 percentage points from 2023 and up 4 points from the five-year average.

Corn planted reached 6%, down 1 point from last year and up 1 point over a five-year average.

Soybeans planted reached 3%, the same as last year and up 2 points over the five-year average.

Cotton reached 8%, up 1 point from 2023 and even with the five-year average.

Sorghum reached 14%, even with 2023 and down 2 points over the fiveyear average.
