Council appoints new Lawton city attorney

From staff reports LAWTON – John R. Andrew has been appointed as the new city attorney.

The City Council’s decision April 29 came after a seven-month search for an individual who will represent the City of Lawton’s legal interests before judicial and administrative agencies.

Andrew joined the U.S. Army in 1994 as a signals intelligence analyst and graduated from the Defense Language Institute in 1995. He left the Army in 1998 to work in business management as an operations supervisor with both the United Parcel Service and the Walmart Information Systems Division.

The Tulsa native rejoined the Army National Guard in 2009 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. Upon his return, and retirement from the military, he attended the University of Tulsa College of Law. After graduation he worked as assistant city attor ney in Ponca City be fore being appointed as their city attorney in 2020.

Andrew will begin his duties here no later than May 31, city offi cials said.

Assistant City Attorney Wilson’s “expertise and commitment have been invaluable to our community. I also welcome John Andrew to our team as the new city attorney. With his experience and dedication to public service, I am confident he will serve the City of Law ton with the highest level of excellence and integrity.”
