LAWTON – The Comanche County Regional Juvenile Detention Center will receive additional American Rescue Plan Act dollars for a new air purifier.
With little discussion, the Comanche County Board of Commissioners voted May 6 to increase the juvenile detention center’s $14,105 ARPA grant by $842, for a new total of $14,947. The board approved the original grant in late February.
Southwest Ledger reported in February that the juvenile detention center is planning to buy and install a REME-Halo ultraviolet light in-duct air purifier, which was developed by the RGF Environmental Group. The purifier relies on reflective electromagnetic energy and ultraviolet light to improve air quality.
The grant will come out of the county’s pot of ARPA funds, which totaled about $23 million. The county must earmark all ARPA funds by the end of this year and spend the money by December 2026.
