From staff reports LAWTON – Rebecca Johnson has been appointed to be the new finance director for the City of Lawton, City Manager John Ratliff announced May 24.

With more than two decades of combined experience in the private and public sectors alike, “Rebecca brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role,” Ratliff said.

Johnson previously was the finance director for the City of Duncan, an auditor in the Public Utility Division of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, and utility billing supervisor with the City of Norman.

A lifelong learner, Johnson is pursuing her doctorate in Administration, Education, and Leadership from Southern Nazarene University.

She earned a Master of Business training certificates and is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association.

“Rebecca's deep understanding of public sector budgeting, accounting, and financial management has been instrumental in driving fiscal responsibility and transparency in her previous roles,” Ratliff said. “She has successfully overseen multimillion- dollar budgets, implemented strategic financial planning initiatives, and ensured compliance with regulatory requirements.”

Johnson will begin her new role at City Hall on June 3 and will ‘hit the ground running.’ The city’s audit of its Fiscal Year 2022 books has been completed but the FY 2023 audit “is still very much in progress,” Ratliff noted.

Kristin Huntley “performed extremely well as the interim finance director for an approximately twomonth period” after Joe Don Dunham left, “and she will continue to serve the City of Lawton as the deputy finance director,” Ratliff said. “We are very grateful for her service.”
