From staff reports Bob Rodenberger, president of Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, gave his latest take on the cattle markets, emphasizing that producers are now producing more meat with less cat tle. While sales have slowed, he said there is still demand for beef products.

“Runs were pretty much normal compared to a year ago,” Rodenberger said. “Out at El Reno, they had a bigger than normal run. Oklahoma City was at a lit tle bit less than they had a year ago. We had a good run at Apache.”

Markets look positive, he said.

“We are still moving the bee f, and that is going to be the key to our business for the next six mon ths,” he said. “We have just got to move beef and move what is available because we don’t have to have any cattle coming to town when you are making them 30 pounds heavier than they were a year ago.”

Moving to rainfall, Rodenberger said it has helped crop growth and demand. He predicts market stability in the upcoming weeks, despite the emphasis on selling older cows to make way for younger ones.

“In general, the livestock industry is in a g ood state,” Rodenberger said.
