LAWTON – In conjunction with the announcement of a $1.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Workforce, Comanche County Memorial Hospital will hold an open house from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.

Great Plains Technology Center and CCMH were jointly awarded the funds to create a new Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention Simulation Education Training Program, according to a press release. The three-year grant will allow CCMH to expand simulation offerings for students, team members and other healthcare professionals with the new Simulation Center of Southwest Oklahoma. The grant will help expand their simulation lab with additional outpatient rooms and allow more students to be trained from nursing, pharmacy and medicine programs.

“The improvements and additions will enhance nursing education by improving faculty skills, knowledge, and use of simulation, as well as by increasing educational opportunities for nursing students, all of which will increase the number of nursing graduates who can help rural and/or medically underserved populations,” said Heather Love, Administrative Director of Quality, Safety, Risk Management, and Education.

The grant will also increase support for interprofessional education.
