Oklahoma rainfall averages more than 1 inch

From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 1.20 inches for the week of May 28-June 2, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The May 28 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 30% abnormal to exceptional drought, down 33 points from last year. Additionally, 15% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, down 35 points from the previous year.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 70s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork.

Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared for the week of May 28-June 2: Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 22%, up 10 points from the previous week and 16 points from normal.

Canola coloring reached 67%, up eight points from the previous week and one point from normal.

Canola harvested reached 5%, up five points from the previous week.

Rye harvested reached 10%, up five points from the previous week and one point from normal.

Oats jointing reached 96%, up six points from the previous week and 11 points from normal. Oats headed reached 79%, up 14 points from the previous week and 16 points from normal. Oats harvested reached 5%, up five points from the previous week.

Row crops: Corn planted reached 96%, up five points from the previous week and 17 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 87%, up six points from the previous week and 23 points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 47%, up seven points from the previous week and 17 points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 37%, up eight points from previous week but down seven points from normal.

Peanuts planted reached 70%, up 21 points from the previous week and 30 points from normal.

Upland cotton planted reached 48%, up 10 points from the previous week and 12 points from normal.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 51%, up 16 points from the previous week and six points from normal.

The first cutting of other hay reached 42%, up 12 points from the previous week and three points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 83% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 89% good to fair.
