Oklahoma rainfall tops 1.5 inches

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 1.58 inches for the week of June 3-9, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The June 4 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 27% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 38 points from last year. Additionally, 15% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, down 36 points from the previous year.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork.

Here’s a look at how crops performed for the week of June 3-9: Small grains: Winter wheat progressed due to favorable weather conditions throughout the week. Winter wheat harvested reached 48%, up 26 points from the previous week and 31 points from normal.

Canola coloring reached 85%, up 18 points from the previous week and seven points from normal. Canola harvested reached 14%, up nine points from the previous week and three points from normal.

Rye harvested reached 28%, up 18 points from the previous week and 10 points from normal.

Oats headed reached 90%, up 11 points from the previous week and 17 points from normal. Oats harvested reached 9%, up four points from the previous week.

Row crops: Corn conditions improved across the state due to recent rains.

Corn emerged reached 96%, up nine points from the previous week and 22 points from normal. Corn silking reached 5%, up five points from the previous week and four points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 54%, up seven points from the previous week and 14 points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 50%, up 13 points from the previous week but down two points from normal.

Peanuts planted reached 90%, up 20 points from the previous week and 30 points from normal.

Upland cotton planted reached 54%, up six points from the previous week and four points from normal.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 78%, up 27 points from the previous week and 15 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 57%, up 15 points from the previous week and seven points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 79% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 85% good to fair.
