Fort Sill and Lawton celebrated the U.S. Army’s 249th birthday on June 14 with a live fire cannon demonstration and a customary cake-cutting by the oldest and youngest soldiers at the post wielding cavalry sabers. Veterans, active-duty Soldiers, civilians, city leaders, Native Americans, children and senior citizens attended the event. The U.S. Army was established by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.
