From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.59 inches for the week of June 17-23, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
According to the June 18 U.S. Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 37% abnormally dry to exceptionally dry, down 36 points from last year. Additionally, 21% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, down 21 points from the previous year.
Statewide temperatures averaged from the upper 70s to the lower 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork.
Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week of June 17-23, according to NASS: Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 95%, up 44 points from the previous year and 30 points from normal.
Canola harvested reached 95%, up 39 points from the previous year and 37 points from normal.
Rye harvested reached 92%, up 37 points from the previous year and 37 points from normal.
Oats harvested reached 47%, up 31 points from the previous year and 25 points from normal.
Row crops: Corn is progressing in central Oklahoma, with some areas starting to dry in spots.
Corn silking reached 31%, up 19 points from the previous week and 20 points from normal.
Sorghum planted reached 91%, up 17 points from the previous week and 23 points from normal.
Soybeans planted reached 83%, up eight points from the previous week and 17 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 57%, up 32 points from the previous week and 16 points from normal.
Upland cotton planted reached 91%, up 21 points from the previous week and three points from normal. Upland cotton squaring reached 5%, up five points from previous week but down two points from normal.
Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95%, up 13 points from the previous week and seven points from normal. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 30%, up 16 points from the previous week but down eight points from normal.
The first cutting of other hay reached 87%, up nine points from the previous week and 16 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 6%, up six points from the previous week.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 80% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 85% good to fair.
