From staff reports OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s 4-H and FFA students should begin thinking about their entry to the Oklahoma Junior Wheat Show, said Oklahoma Wheat Commission Executive Director Mike Schulte.
“We do have the Junior Wheat Show competition, visual portion of the competition, that is going to be taking place at the Payne County Fairgrounds on July 17. So, if you want to look at the rules for that and 4-H/FFA students want to submit their 10-pound samples, you can go to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission website at www.okwheat.org under the ‘Outreach and Education’ tab,” he said.
The Wheat Commission was established in 1965 to provide the framework for wheat producers to invest in product promotion, the organization’s website states. “The OWC promotes greater use of wheat in domestic and international markets through research, market development and public education. OWC’s budget is based on crop production and producer participation.”
The final awards will be given out on Dec. 4 at the Junior Wheat Show banquet.
According to Schulte, there is more than $15,000 in scholarship money available to the top five entries on the 4-H and FFA side. He emphasized the importance of scholarship funding for agricultural learning. “That’s been a wonderful program that really just shows our students all the different aspects involved in the industry that they can be involved in,” Schulte said.
