Lawton librarian Elizabeth Knighton said that f inding money in a book has “always been on my bucket list.”
She can now write that one off.
An employee in the Community Engagement Division of the Lawton Public Library, Knighton was going through a boxful of paperback books that had been donated to the libr ary recently when she noticed something in one of them.
“It was a bank envelope that had 13 crisp, brand-new $100 bills and no ID on it.”
So, Knighton enlisted her colleagues in “some detective work.” They posted an inquiry on Facebook, asking whether anyone had donated a box of romance books that morning; they also scanned some camera footage, but to no avail.
However, subsequently they were contacted by a woman who said she had donated several books for her aunt and inadvertently the cash was left behind.
For her honesty and integrity, Knighton was recognized during the Lawton City Council meeting July 23 with the “Employee Spotlight Award” and a commemorative city coin.
