CHICKASHA – The City Council voted to rebid a contract to demolish several dilapidated docks at Lake Chickasha.
Parks and Recreation Director Spencer Winzenried set aside $30,000 last year for removal of 13 docks at the lake, but two bids came in more than double that amount and a third bid was rejected outright.
The lowest and best bidder was Washita Construction,
of Chickasha, which priced the package at $66,677, or $5,129 per dock.
Although the contract was awarded in March to Washita Construction, President Malisa Bramblett and Winzenried subsequently agreed it wouldn’t be financially feasible to do a partial job, the parks director indicated in a conversation with Southwest Ledger.
Consequently, new proposals will be solicited.
Bids must be submitted to City Hall by 1:30 p.m.
Aug. 16, when they will be opened. A City Council meeting is scheduled for Aug. 19.
The contractor must dismantle the deteriorated docks in their entirety and dispose of all waste material in an approved landfill; use of explosives to perform the job is prohibited. The job must be completed by Dec. 1.
All of the docks are on the southeast side of the lake, Winzenried said. There are no docks on the west side of the reservoir.
