From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 1.27 inches for the week of Aug. 5-11, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The Aug. 6 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 86% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 48 points from the previous year. Additionally, 44% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, up 31 points from last year.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork.
Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week of Aug. 5-11: Row crops: Corn dough reached 74%, up 23 points from the previous week and from normal. Corn dented reached 43%, up 19 points from the previous week.
Sorghum headed reached 54%, up eight points from the previous week and one point from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 18%, up two points from the previous week but down one point from normal.
Soybeans blooming reached 55%, up 16 points from the previous week but down six points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 17%, up eight points from the previous week but down eight points from normal.
Peanuts pegging reached 73%, up eight points from the previous week but unchanged from normal.
Upland cotton setting bolls reached 65%, up 15 points from the previous week and four points from normal.
Hay: The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 72%, up 10 points from the previous week but down two points from normal. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 11%, up 11 points from last week but down one point from normal.
The second cutting of other hay reached 55%, up three points from the previous week but down two points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 9%, up four points from the previous week.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 86% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 90% good to fair.
