Oklahoma’s current cotton crop may be significantly larger than the 2023 crop, which featured large numbers of abandoned acres. Last year, Oklahoma cotton farmers ended up harvesting just 180,000 acres and a final production of 210,000 bales. The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts a lot more acres to be harvested this season: an estimated 315,000 acres. The National Agricultural Assistance Service forecasts Oklahoma’s cotton harvest to be 350,000 bales. This photo shows a Lawton cotton field at state Highway 36 and Southwest 52nd Street on Sept. 6.
