LAWTON – A traffic study on Gore Boulevard will start after traffic is “back to normal on the overpass across Interstate 44,” where a pedestrian bridge was installed last week, Public Works Director Michael Watrous reported.
WSB will perform a study “to optimize traffic signal timing and maximize traffic flow” of eastbound and westbound traffic along a six-mile section of Gore Boulevard, from 45th Street on the east side to 82nd Street in west Lawton. The study will include weekdays and weekends and will be conducted while Lawton Public Schools are in session.
Also, an evaluation of the traffic signal equipment and communication “necessary for implementation of the new timing” will be conducted. The consultants will “determine whether coordinate cycle length versus individual intersection cycle length is appropriate at each intersection,” according to the scope of work.
WSB will be paid $250,730 for the research.
Earlier this year, Traffic Engineering Consultants based in Oklahoma City counted 86 signalized intersections in Lawton, and found they are operated with 10 different models of controllers and seven different vehicle detection types.
