Early November brings rain to Oklahoma

From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 3.83 inches for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agriculture Statistics Service.

The NASS said the Oct. 29 U.S. Drought Monitor Report indicated drought conditions were rated 92% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 42 points from previous year. Additionally, 84% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, up 48 points from last year.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower to upper 60s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated short to very short. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3: Small grains: Winter wheat planted reached 72%, up 13 points from the previous week but down 16 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 47%, up 11 points from the previous week but down 26 points from normal.

Row crops: Corn harvested reached 95%, up five points from the previous week and two points from normal.

Sorghum harvested reached 72%, up 15 points from the previous week and three points from normal.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 85%, up five points from the previous week but down five points from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 49%, up 14 points from the previous week but down one point from normal.

Peanuts mature reached 95%, up 10 points from the previous week but unchanged from normal. Peanuts harvested reached 54%, up 11 points from the previous week but down 12 points from normal.

Upland cotton harvested reached 40%, up 10 points from the previous week and three points from normal.

Hay: The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 50%, up eight points from the previous week and 15 points from normal.

The third cutting of other hay reached 80%, up three points from the previous week and seven points from normal. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 20%, up five points from the previous week and one point from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 66% poor to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 77% fair to good.
