From staff reports While the nation’s latest Baker Hughes Rig Count shows a gain of seven rigs in the most recent reporting period, of the shale plays, the Granite Wash in Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle recorded the biggest gain.
The Granite Wash count rose by two to seven total rigs. The remainder of the nation’s gain was distributed throughout the different shale plays.
Of other plays in Oklahoma, the Ardmore Woodford continued with no reported drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes report. The Arkoma Woodford remained at one rig. slip by one to 20 active rigs. The Barnett play in north Texas remained at two rigs. The D-J Niobrara in Colorado and southern Wyoming was unchanged at seven rigs.
The Eagle Ford of South Texas stayed at 47 while the Permian Basin, the nation’s most active oil and gas play, gained one rig to reach 304. The Permian includes West Texas and southeastern New Mexico.
The Haynesville, the big gas play where Oklahoma City’s Expand Energy is devoting a big exploration effort, stayed at a count of 30 rigs. The Marcellus gained a rig for a total of 26. The Utica count declined one to nine rigs. The Williston of North Dakota gained one rig to reach 36 total.
