CHICKASHA – A contract on a Geographic Information System (GIS) that will provide first responders with accurate location information when answering calls for assistance was awarded by the City Council.
The police department applied to the Oklahoma 911 Management Authority for funding to “improve emergency dispatch and 911 service” for residents of Chickasha “and two-thirds of Grady County Emergency Management Service.”
A mapping update of residential and business addresses in the city and county, along with road and street names, is “needed to meet the requirements” of the state ’s geographic information and addressing standard, the council was informed last October.
The council awarded a $36,640 contract on the GIS mapping data update to Spatial Data Research.
Approximately 29.5% of the price is f or an update of GIS and address data “on a regular basis” to incorporate new developments and changes, city boundary modifications and population growth, quarterly data output for computer- aided design and dispatch mapping, plus eight quarterly uploads over the next two years.
The City of Chickasha will pay the full amount of the project cost up front and will be reimbursed 100% by the Oklahoma 911 Management Authority.
