County approves supplemental agreement for clinic

LAWTON – The Comanche County Health Department’s new public health preparedness clinic will be larger than originally anticipated.

With little discussion, the Comanche County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Feb 24 to approve a supplemental services agreement with Tradesman Architectural Studios. The Oklahoma City-based architectural firm is preparing final construction documents for bidding, permits and construction of the new building.

The commission needed to revise its original agreement with Tradesman because the project’s total budget has increased from $1 million to approximately $2.2 million, according to the supplemental services agreement. The higher budget allowed the health department to add more square footage to the new building and revise its outer facade.

Tradesman had already completed 80% of the final construction documents for the project, according to the agreement. Now, the firm will revise those documents and issue permit drawings.

The county will pay Tradesman $22,000 for revising the construction documents and issuing the drawings, according to the agreement.

When it is finished, the new clinic will provide testing and treatment for COVID-19 and future pandemics. Funding for the project came out of the county’s pot of American Rescue Plan Act dollars.
