Guthrie woman admits stealing from Hydro nursing home

OKLAHOMA CITY – Three people have been charged with conspiracy in the theft of more than a third of a million dollars from a southwest Oklahoma nursing home, Western District U.S. Attorney Robert J.

Troester announced.

Jessica Dawn Burton, 53, of Guthrie, was charged May 14 with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

According to information filed in federal court, Burton was employed from August 2022 through November 2023 as a bookkeeper for Maple Lawn Manor nursing home in Hydro.

Government prosecutors alleged that Burton used her position to issue checks from the company’s bank account to enrich herself and three other conspirators, utilizing the owner’s signature on the checks without the knowledge or consent of her supervisor or the owner.

In all, Burton issued 223 unauthorized checks totaling $377,443.

She pleaded guilty to the felony crime on May 19 and was released on a $5,000 un secured bond pending sentencing, which will include restitution, her plea agreement states.

Two other individuals – Misty Burton, 34, and Neil Collin Willmon, 26 – were indicted April 16 in Oklahoma City’s federal district court, also on a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in the same case. Willmon lives in Cache and Cyril, traffic tickets issued in Comanche, Grady, Jackson, Harmon, McClain and Oklahoma counties indicate. Misty Burton’s address is not known.

The third alleged conspirator was not identified in court records.
