The Fletcher Police Department recently announced a free, all-day training aimed at helping local leaders and emergency workers get ready for unexpected crises.

The class, MGT 383: Emergency Operations Plans for Rural Jurisdictions, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sept. 4 at the Fletcher Community Center, 504 Cole Ave.

The training, through the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium, is designed for people who play a role in keeping communities safe, such as police officers, firefighters and government officials. RDPC provides small, rural and tribal emergency responders and stakeholders with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to enhance the safety, security and quality of life for their citizens through access to U.S. Department of Homeland Security-certified training and resources developed specifically for rural practitioners and communities. Attendees will discover what makes a good emergency plan, how to keep it current, and will practice different scenarios to help them use their new skills. The main goal is to ensure our towns are as better prepared for emergencies.

• Law enforcement

• Firefighters and first responders

• Public health workers

• Other community leaders For law enforcement officers, the training also counts for 8 hours of special training required by CLEET (Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training).
