Chickasha Chamber Connects with ICAN

Body

From staff reports The Chickasha Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Chamber Connects event Aug. 15 at the Intervention Crisis and Advocacy Network.

All chamber members are welcome to attend the 8:30 a.m. free networking event.

Chamber Connects is a monthly event that gives chamber members a chance to meet each other and learn about different businesses in the Chickasha area. ICAN, located at 1501W. Minnesota Ave., is this month's host. Light refreshments will be served.

ICAN was founded in November 1980 by women at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma who saw a need for emergency services and support for rape victims. The group, originally called the Women's Service Center of Chickasha Inc., started with a 24hour crisis line in May 1981.

Over the years, ICAN has helped people who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. In 2024, the organization helped 939 people. It is the only program certified by the Office of the Attorney General with full-time staff and a program house in both Canadian and Grady counties.

ICAN’s free and confidential services include:

• Immediate Help: A 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter and transportation to a safe place.

• Ongoing Support: Weekly support groups; help with filing protective orders and court support.

• Community Work: ICAN staff also work to increase public knowledge about domestic violence through educational presentations and events. They partner with law enforcement and other groups to make sure victims get the help they need.
