Voters may request emergency ballots for Sept. 9 election

Body

From staff reports Registered voters who become physically incapacitated after 5 p.m. Sept. 8 and are unable to make it to the polls will still have an opportunity to cast their ballot in the Sept. 9 election.

State law allows voters who become incapacitated to vote under special provisions, Comanche County Election Board Secretary Amy Sims said in a news release. She said emergency incapacitation is something most voters don’t think about.

“Voting is our constitutional right, but life happens,” Sims said. “Injury, illness, or even childbirth can prevent a voter from being able to go to the polls. That’s why it’s important to make sure voters know their rights in the event of an emergency.”

If you someone you know becomes physically incapacitated after 5 p.m. Sept. 8, contact the Comanche County Election Board as soon as possible.

Election board officials will work with you to make sure you have all the information necessary to cast your ballot, Sims said. Information is also available on the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website, oklahoma. gov/elections.

The Comanche County Election Board is located at 315 SW Fifth St., Room 206, and is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Monday through Friday. Board officials may be reached at (580) 353-1880 or email comanchecounty@ elections.ok.gov.
