An Oklahoma City man has been convicted in federal court and sento prison for attacking a mail carrier.
Kantrell Dawan Henderson, 34, will serve a year and a half in federal prison for an assault on a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier.
Oklahoma City police officers responded to a metro neighborhood report of the assault on Oct. 19, 2024. Witnesses reported that while the carrier was delivering mail on his route, Henderson confronted and placed him in a chokehold. A passerby pulled Henderson off the mail carrier, which allowed him to escape.
Officers located and arrested Henderson after a brief confrontation. Henderson was charged with assault on a federal officer or employee and pleaded guilty on Aug. 13, 2025, admitting he assaulted a federal employee who was engaged in his official duties. The reason why was not explained in court records.
At the sentencing hearing on Nov. 25, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell sentenced Henderson to serve 18 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. In announcing his sentence, Russell noted the seriousness of the offense and Henderson’s criminal history.
Public records reflect that Henderson was convicted in 2016 in Oklahoma County in an arson case and possession of a controlled substance. He was under 10-year suspended sentences in those cases when he attacked the mail carrier.
