The price tag for a recently completed northwest Lawton water line replacement project was shaved by nearly half a million dollars.

The City Council accepted a job that entailed “rehabilitation” of approximately 32,000 linear feet (six miles) of 8-inch to 12-inch water lines.

The project area was between Sheridan Road and 38th Street, and between Cache Road and Rogers Lane, city Communications Manager Caitlin Gatlin said.

A $6,469 million contract on the job was awarded to Southwest Water Works of Oklahoma City on Aug. 27, 2024. A change order reduced the invoice by $465,314, to $6,004,555, which was financed from a $29 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan, records show.

“The work has been completed in accordance with the contract,” project manager Douglas L. Smith with Jacobs Engineering Group informed Public Utilities Director Rusty Whisenhunt in a Dec. 15, 2025, memorandum.
