Voter registration deadline is July 31

Body

July 31 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in the Aug. 25 runoff primary and special elections, Comanche County Election Board Secretary Amy Sims said Monday.

People who are U.S. citizens, Oklahoma residents and at least 17½ years old may apply for voter registration. However, applicants must be at least 18 to vote.

Applications must be received by the county election board or postmarked no later than midnight July 31. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but they will not processed until after the Aug. 25 elections.

Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed, and approved voters will receive a voter ID card in the mail. Applicants who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the county election board office immediately, Sims said.

Applications must be approved by the election board secretary before people can vote.

Registered voters who have moved to Comanche County from a different county or state will need to complete and submit a new voter registration application to update their registration. New applicants can register to vote using the OK Voter Portal’s online voter registration system at oklahoma.gov/ elections/ovp. (A current and valid Oklahoma driver’s license or state ID is required for online registration.)

Voter registration applications can be downloaded from the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website at oklahoma.gov/elections or obtained from your county election board. Applications are also available at most tag agencies, post offices and public libraries.

If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you can make changes online using the OK Voter Portal or complete a paper application.
