The 2026 Festival of Freedom, a community-wide celebration held in a collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Chickasha, was described as an overwhelming success.
From Memorial Day weekend through the Fourth of July weekend, the Festival of Freedom delivered six weeks of patriotic, family-friendly events that many citizens called “the best 4th of July celebration ever.”
“This is exactly what we hoped for as we look toward America 250,” said Jim Cowan, president of the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce. “Our goal was to create a series of events that honored our history, supported our local businesses, and gave families a reason to celebrate together. The response from the community exceeded all expectations.”
The Festival of Freedom featured a full slate of activities designed to engage residents and visitors of all ages, including:
•Flag dedication ceremony (Memorial Day weekend) served as a kickoff to the festival, honoring veterans, active-duty service members, and their families.
•Wings and Wheels Chickasha Air Show. This is an annual aviation event that drew families and aviation enthusiasts for a day of aerial performances and fun on the ground.
•Flag Day Chamber Challenge. This community competition brought residents together in the spirit of friendly rivalry and patriotism.
•“Love Where You Live,” a shop local promotion, was a Chamber-led initiative that encouraged residents to support Chickasha businesses, reinforced community pride and strengthened the local economy.
•Educational events at the Chickasha Public Library featured special children’s programs highlighting American history, reading, and creativity.
•Washita Valley Golf Tournament, the oldest golf tournament in Oklahoma, combined recreation, networking, and fundraising in support of local initiatives.
•Fireworks show at Salt Creek Casino on July 3 provided a pre–Fourth of July display that set the stage for the grand finale.
•Fourth of July at Shannon Springs Park. The Festival of Freedom culminated on July 4th with a full day of events at Shannon Springs Park, drawing thousands to celebrate together.
Activities included free swimming for kids; food trucks, bounce houses and family activities, free hot dogs and watermelon, the Kids’ Parade of Stars and Handlebars, live circus performers, a huge birthday cake for America, a patriotic costume contest, a DJ playing patriotic music throughout the day, a fire dancing performance at dusk, and “the largest fireworks show in the history of Chickasha set to the backdrop of a severe thunderstorm,” Cowan noted.
The success of this year’s Festival of Freedom “was an important milestone,” he said. “The Chamber and the City plan to build on this momentum with even more opportunities for celebration, education, and community engagement in the years ahead.”
