DUNCAN — The City of Duncan plans to buy two Palo Alto PA-3410 secure web gateways to replace two gateways that are nearing the end of their service lives.

The Duncan City Council voted Tuesday to buy the new gateways, including the software and installation, communications director Loisdawn Jones said Wednesday in an email. The city will spend $158,675.71 on the purchase.

A secure web gateway is a firewall that filters traffic and enforces security policies before allowing access to web resources.

The city will buy the new gateways under a statewide contract, an agreement in which local governments can buy goods and services at pre-negotiated rates to support their missions, according to the state Office of Management and Enterprise Services. Statewide contracts allow cities to leverage better buying power while saving time and money.
