LAWTON – Permits for a new industry in west Lawton and a bumper crop of home permits pushed the value of permits to more than $27.3 million last month.
Commercial permits totaled $22.8 million and residential permits added $4.6 million. Builders purchased permits for 19 single-family homes valued at almost $3.3 million and permits for two duplexes valued at $473,600.
The city issued three permits totaling $21.55 million for construction at the new Firehawk Aerospace plant under construction between Goodyear Boulevard and Northwest 112th Street north of the Goodyear tire plant.
The Oklahoma Development Finance Authority has provided a $22 million grant to the Lawton Economic Development Authority to assist the project. Firehawk, based in Addison, Texas, has said it will invest $45 million for the plant, which will produce hybrid rocket engine propellant.
Other large commercial permits included:
•A $625,000 permit for remodeling at Lawton Pointe apartments, 2237 NW Hoover;
•A $250,000 permit for remodeling at former Serco call center at 6501 W. Gore to house Great Plains Technology Center’s industrial maintenance training center; and
•A $200,000 for portable buildings at Bishop Middle School, 2302 SW Bishop Road.
