Weeds, blocked crossings a concern to city council

CHICKASHA — Tall weeds and blocked railroad crossings are current concerns to City Council members and their constituents. Weeds are “out of control” in Chickasha, Ward 1 Councilwoman Kea Ginn said during a recent council meeting. “We’re writing citations,” City Manager Keith Johnson responded.

Swimming pool to be evaluated

CHICKASHA — The swimming pool in Shannon Springs Park will be evaluated to give city officials some indication of whether it needs to be renovated or replaced.
The budget for maintenance of Shannon Springs Park increased for Fiscal Year 2024. In addition, a $1.8 million project will replace the asphalt trails in the 50-acre park with concrete paths and will finance erosion control measures around the park’s 4.5-acre pond. Chickasha budget for FY ’24 conservative

CHICKASHA — The budgets approved for the Municipal Authority, the Airport Authority, and the city’s General Fund for Fiscal Year 2023-24 are all higher than last year’s. General Fund expenditures for FY 24 are projected at $21.44 million, a 1.25% increase over FY 23.

USAO tuition, fees remain flat

CHICKASHA — The Board of Regents for the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma voted unanimously to not increase tuition or mandatory fees for the 2023-24 academic year. On average, an Oklahoma resident enrolled in 15 credit hours can expect to pay $4,140 per trimester in tuition and fees.
