Chickasha approves water plant sales tax

CHICKASHA — Local residents voted overwhelmingly Aug. 8 to finance construction of a new water treatment plant with a capital improvements sales tax. Of the 1,287 votes counted, the proposal was endorsed by a whopping 93.71% yes to 6.29% no: 1,206 to 81.

Bonuses attract police applicants

CHICKASHA — The Police Department signing bonus has resulted in two new rookie recruits to fill its depleted ranks, and others are “in the process,” a spokesperson for Chief Goebel Music told Southwest Ledger on Aug. 2.

Progress underway on ‘dreamer’s’ projects

CHICKASHA — Chet Hitt’s construction crews continue making progress on several projects associated with the California businessman’s multimillion-dollar Town’s End development in Old Town.

Chickasha Chamber observes centennial anniversary Aug. 1

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha Chamber of Commerce observed its centennial anniversary on Aug. 1, marking a century of fostering business growth, community development, and prosperity. To commemorate the occasion the City Council proclaimed August 1 as “Chickasha Chamber Day.

Industrial transformer falls onto Chickasha street

CHICKASHA — A 31.5-ton electric transformer being transported from south Texas to Oklahoma City slipped off a flatbed trailer here July 26, blocking a major intersection for six hours. No one was hit and no vehicles were damaged, but a section of curb was chipped.

Chickasha Parks & Rec purchases mower, UV

CHICKASHA — The municipal Parks and Recreation Department has been rather busy of late. • The City Council authorized the department to buy an industrial-sized Super Z Kawasaki 35-horsepower FX1000 riding mower that cuts a swath 60 inches wide.
