Military Appreciation Day celebration slated for July 8

FORT SILL — Soldiers and their families will be recognized for their service July 8 during Military Appreciation Day at Fort Sill. The annual event will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area. A free catered lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FORT SILL — Fourteen new soldiers from a dozen countries became U.S. citizens in a naturalization ceremony before they graduated from Army basic training at Fort Sill on April 13.

FORT SILL – Maj. Gen. Kenneth Kamper remains suspended from his position as commanding general of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence and of Fort Sill, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Department of the Army’s Inspector General. Kamper was temporarily suspended on Feb.

Fort Sill to receive new laser weapons

WASHINGTON — The first set of Stryker combat vehicles equipped with 50-kilowatt laser weapons will be delivered to a unit of Army soldiers at Fort Sill by the end of September, according to the head of the service’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.

Fort Sill’s 1st Aero Squadron took off from Columbus, New Mexico, late in the afternoon on March 19, 1916, to participate in Brig. Gen. John J. “Black Jack” Pershing’s Mexican Punitive Expedition, ordered by President Woodrow Wilson.
