LAWTON – Almost 90% of Lawton Public Schools students who have received positive COVID-19 test results since August 12 have recovered, according to district figures released Tuesday. Numbers show 280 of the 315 students have recovered from the illness with the remaining 35 still in isolation.

Mustang Public Schools voted to allow students who have been exposed to COVID-19 to quarantine on school premises as part of a program through a partnership with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Canadian County Health Department.

WEARING OF THE (NEW) GREEN

Whenever football returns to Lawton Public Schools, the teams will play on new turf installed at Cameron Stadium for the first time in 12 years, according to LPS Athletic Director Gary Dees. The work was performed this month by FieldTurf of Oklahoma City, at a cost of approximately $400,000.

Freedom lawsuit unresolved

OKLAHOMA CITY – A lawsuit filed against Lawton Public Schools by the prime contractor on construction of Freedom Elementary School at Fort Sill remains unresolved after nearly three years. Harper Construction Co. sued LPS in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma on May 12, 2017.
