Companies to promote services, products during Business Expo

LAWTON — Local companies will have the opportunity to promote their services and products at the Stop, Swap, and Shop Business Expo at the Great Plains Coliseum Annex of the Comanche County Fairgrounds. Hosted by Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, the expo, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

City OKs funding agreement for H.E.L.P. Center

LAWTON — City officials pledged recently to provide funds for a proposed center to help victims of sexual assault find the support they need. The Lawton City Council voted unanimously July 25 to approve a limited support agreement with the H.E.L.P.
The intersection of 14th and Missouri in Chickasha, and all four storm sewer inlets, were completely rebuilt by Mayfield Contracting, of Clinton, in a $287,990 contract awarded June 20 by the City Council; the reconstruction project was completed last week. Oklahoma Sports Network aiming for larger coverage area

LAWTON — Oklahoma Sports Network covers 11 high schools in the southwest and central parts of the state, but there’s still room to grow, company owner Eric Sharum said.

Streets closed for reconstruction

LAWTON — MTZ Construction has closed Indiana Avenue from Kincaid Avenue to the cul-de-sac (1,000 feet north of Fullbright Lane) and Brighton Drive from Brighton Place to Mieling Drive for road reconstruction, according to a news release from City Hall.

September vote becomes less complex for Ward 6 residents

LAWTON — The upcoming municipal election just got a little less complicated for voters in Ward 6. When they go to the polls Sept. 12, Ward 6 residents will decide who will represent them on the Lawton City Council for the next three years. The winner’s new term will begin in January 2024.

LAWTON — The Lawton City Council recently took the first step toward reducing the city’s inventory of parkland. The council voted unanimously July 11 to declare 10 parks as surplus city property, clearing the way for the city to close the parks or sell them.
