In addition to portions of its wrought iron fence, gutters, window screens, trees and security lights, a recent hailstorm damaged many sections of terracotta tile roof along the north side of Lawton’s Historic Mattie Beal Home. Prior to Oklahoma statehood, Beal, an unmarried telephone operator from Kansas, won the 160-acre tract of land, as hers was the second name drawn in the 1901 Land Lottery.
