Stephens County United Way to host BBQ Showdown Saturday

DUNCAN — For the fourth year in a row, United Way of Stephens County is hosting their annual, lip-smacking BBQ Showdown from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in Fuqua Park.

Cafe owner cites lifetime fondness for cooking

ALTUS – Sharon Switzer wouldn’t know what to do if she didn’t own the Sunrise Café, a job she has held since 1997. But Switzer is more than a back-office owner. On any given day, she works the cash register, waits on customers and is the chief cook and bottle washer.

Mission on Wheels continues helping community

ALTUS – God gave Edna Douglas a “vision” 25 years ago to help people in need and her effort continues today, the self-proclaimed missionary said. “He (God) gave me the vision and told me how to do it,” she said.

Up their alley

ALTUS - Kenton McKnight’s dream came true 16 years ago when he and wife Emelia bought Town & Country Bowling Center. McKnight, born and raised in Altus, had bowled numerous times at the old alley which was built in 1959.
