CHICKASHA The Fire Department will spend $87,000 to buy a new truck and sophisticated inventory tracking software.

The city council authorized the Chickasha Fire/Emergency Management Service to acquire a new RAM 2500 vehicle from Emergency Vehicle Sales and Service of Oklahoma, in Blanchard. The $82,500 price tag will be reimbursed by the Grady County 522 district, the council was told.

The all-wheel-drive truck is “heavier duty” than the department RAM 1500 truck and is equipped with “an upfitting package” that will “allow for more capabilities with less of a weight restriction,” Fire Chief Tony Samaniego said.

The council also authorized the department to spend up to $5,175 to contract with PSTrax of Littleton, Colorado, for inventory control and apparatus maintenance software. The department is hopeful that the 522 district will pay half of the cost, Samaniego said.

The annual renewal fee would be an estimated $4,125, records reflect.

The software has seven modules that perform various functions:

• The vehicle module automates vehicle maintenance checks (such as routine oil changes) and all tools and equipment carried on each of those vehicles.

• A station module schedules building maintenance inspections, chore schedules, safety inspections, and basic EMS and station supply checks. Checklists can be customized.

• An SCBA module tracks the full history for each piece of self-contained breathing apparatus gear, from purchase to retirement.

• The PPE module tracks the history of each piece of personal protective equipment from acquisition to retirement.

• The Critical Asset Module tracks the history of each critical or high-dollar asset from purchase to retirement.

• The Inventory/Supply Module provides visibility and tracking of all consumable supplies (such as EMS supplies, station supplies and repair parts) across every location in the department, with real-time reporting on expirations and usage.

• PSTrax also has a Controlled Substance Module that tracks every vial handoff for DEA Schedule II, III and IV controlled substances, such as usage, resupply and inventory checks. It tracks and documents each vial by control number, lot number, and expiration date.
