Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.05 of an inch for the week of Aug. 23-29, with the Panhandle district recording the highest total at 0.22 of an inch.

Drought conditions were rated 12% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down three points from the previous week, according to the Aug. 24 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 5% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, up three points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the low 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week:

Row crops: Corn dough reached 80%, down two points from the previous year and down six points from normal. Corn dented reached 44%, down five points from the previous year and 15 points from normal.

Sorghum headed reached 90%, up five points from the previous year and one point from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 45%, up one point from the previous year but down two points from normal. Sorghum mature reached 6%, down two points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

Soybeans blooming reached 81%, down three points from the previous year and one point from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 58%, down one point from both the previous year and from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 1%, down two points from the previous year and two points from normal.

Peanuts pegging reached 90%, up one point from the previous year but down four points from normal. Peanuts mature reached 14%, down five points from the previous year but up four points from normal.

Cotton setting bolls reached 77%, down 12 points from the previous year and 10 points from normal. Cotton bolls opening reached 10%, down six points from the previous year and down one point from normal.

Hay: The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 90%, down two points from the previous year and three points from normal. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 42%, down two points from the previous year and three points from normal.

The second cutting of other hay reached 75%, up four points from both the previous year and from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 15%, up two points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 84% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
