Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.43 of an inch for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5, with the east-central district recording the highest total at 1.07 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 18% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up six points from the previous week, according to the Aug. 31 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 7% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, up two points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the low 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5:

Row crops: Corn dough reached 92%, down one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Corn dented reached 69%, up six points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Corn mature reached 25%, down two points from the previous year and three points from normal.

Sorghum headed reached 92%, down two points from the previous year and two points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 59%, up one point from the previous year and one point from normal. Sorghum mature reached 14%, up one point from the previous year but down nine points from normal.

Soybeans blooming reached 90%, up one point from the previous year and three points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 67%, down two points from the previous year and one point from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 5%, down five points from the previous year and one point from normal.

Peanuts pegging reached 95%, up one point from the previous year but down two points from normal. Peanuts mature reached 27%, down two points from the previous year but up 11 points from normal.

Cotton setting bolls reached 90%, down four points from the previous year and four points from normal. Cotton bolls opening reached 15%, down 10 points from the previous year and six points from normal.

Hay: The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95%, unchanged from the previous year and unchanged from normal. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 47%, down 18 points from the previous year and 10 points from normal.

The second cutting of other hay reached 76%, up one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 17%, down five points from the previous year and four points from normal. 


Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 86% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 89% good to fair
