Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.07 of an inch for the week of Sept. 20-26, with the northeast district recording the highest total at 0.44 of an inch, according to the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Drought conditions were rated 79% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 24 points from the previous week, according to the Sept. 21 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 39% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, up 28 points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the low 70s. Topsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly short to very short, while subsoil moisture conditions were rated short to adequate.

Here’s a look at crop progress for the week:

Small grains: Winter wheat planted reached 28%, up three points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 5%, down one point from the previous year but up two points from normal.

Row crops: Mature corn reached 79%, up five points from the previous year and seven points from normal. Harvested corn reached 30%, up one point from the previous year but down nine points from normal.

Sorghum coloring reached 94%, up five points from the previous year and four points from normal. Mature sorghum reached 60%, up 11 points from the previous year and seven points from normal. Sorghum harvested reached 10%, down nine points from the previous year and 14 points from normal.

Soybeans setting pods reached 88%, down four points from the previous year and three points from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 34%, up two points from the previous year and seven points from normal.

Mature peanuts reached 50%, unchanged from the previous year but up six points from normal. Cotton bolls opening reached 68%, up 14 points from the previous year and 11 points from normal.

Hay: The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 78%, down eight points from the previous year but up one point from normal. The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 12%, up three points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

The third cutting of other hay reached 45%, up six points from the previous year and five points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 78% fair to good. Livestock condition was rated at 90% good to fair.
