LAWTON – Although Governor Stitt rescinded the COVID-19 state of emergency in Oklahoma on Tuesday, the mask mandate at the Comanche County Courthouse remains in effect for several more weeks.

Central District County Commissioner Johnny Owens met against Wednesday morning with the county’s elected officials and department heads to discuss the issue.

“The consensus was that we should keep our policy in place for awhile longer, because we don’t want to confuse people by going back-and-forth,” Owens said. “We have tax sales” that attract many people to the courthouse, and a three-week jury trial docket in Comanche County District Court starts June 3, he noted.

So at least until late June “we’ll continue to require masks, social distancing and temperature checks at the courthouse, for the safety of the public and county employees,” Owens said.
